LIRNSearch vs Individual Databases

If you have access to LIRNSearch, why wouldn't you always use it? Why on earth would you open up an individual database to search when you could search all the database at once? That would just be working harder, not smarter...right?

The answer is that the individual databases offer specialized search options and filters that can help you search faster and more effectively.

For example, the ProQuest Psychology database allows you to automatically filter research studies based on age group:

"Age group" filter in the ProQuest Psychology Database.

Neither LIRNSearch nor the vendor Power Searches can do that.

So, using a specific database can be working smarter not harder, if you leverage the database's advanced search options and filters to refine your search!

Visit our Vendor Resources page to learn how to use the advanced search features found in the various specialized databases your institution subscribes to.

Not in LIRNSearch

Additionally, some of our databases do not support being integrated into LIRNSearch and must be searched individually. For more information, contact your instructor.
