Limit by Full Text & Date¶
Two of the most common filters that you will use are limiting to only full-text results and to results published within a certain time frame.
Limit to Results Available in Full Text¶
By default, LIRNSearch will automatically limit your results to only display results available in full text.
Tip
Check the checkbox.
Sometimes an item will be mis-indexed and erroneously show up in the results even though it is not available in full text. However, if you see multiple citation-only results, check to make sure the "Full Text" check box hasn't become unchecked.
Limit by Date¶
By default, LIRNSearch will look for results published on any date, but you can easily change that by clicking on the "Any Date" button. From there, you will have multiple options.
After Date¶
If you select "After Date," then you can enter a single month, day, and year. LIRNSearch will only display results published after that date.
Tip
Sometimes your instructor will tell you to only use articles from within a recent period of time (e.g.: 5 years, 3 years, or 1 year). The "After Date" button is the key to quickly limiting your results to that time period.
Before Date¶
Looking for historical sources? If you select "Before Date," then you can enter a single month, day, and year. LIRNSearch will only display results published before that date.
Between Dates¶
If you select "Between Dates," then you can enter a two months, days, and years. LIRNSearch will only display results published after the first date and before the second.
During Date¶
Do you want to be really precise in your search? If you select "During Date," then you can enter a single month, day, and year. LIRNSearch will only display results published on that one, exact date.
Tip
The "During Date" filter can be very useful when looking for primary sources (first hand, contemporary accounts). You can precisely locate news published during and after an event.
